Who am I?

Daniel Davies

I am a third-year Journalism student with a particular interest in sport! When I was young I wanted to play cricket for a living, now I want to talk and write about it! You can find out more about my journey in journalism below!

My career so far…

Dragon Media: September 2020 – September 2021

I was a sport reporter at Dragon Media through my first year studying journalism. I produced match reports on Autumn international rugby fixtures and the Six Nations.

Atrium News/The Diffdaff: September 2021 – present

Atrium News is the media outlet for the University of South Wales, where I currently study. The Diffdaff is the online version of this, where we post our media content, accompanied by written stories. I’ve undertaken a broad range of roles during my time at University, ranging all the way from being a camera operator to being the editor of the programmes we produce, making me primarily responsible for the programme that goes out at the end of that day.

Bro Radio: October 2021 – present

Bro Radio is an award-winning community radio station that covers the Vale of Glamorgan. I started my time at Bro Radio as a bulletin producer. Since then I’ve been fortunate enough to move into some work as a reporter, with my most notable experience being the coverage of Barry Town United FC’s Cymru South title win and promotion to the top flight.

Podcasting at Ysbyty Ystrad FM (YYFM): November 2022 – present

Ysbyty Ystrad FM (YYFM) is an award-winning project that aims to bring comfort to people in hospital through the medium of music, storytelling and podcasting. I was a member of a three man show covering the England Cricket Team’s test matches from November 2022 to the present day. The podcasts were a review of each of the games and a preview heading into future matches and I was joined on the podcast by a fellow USW student, Blake Bint, and a notable cricket author and journalist, Dan Whiting. Following the success of these podcasts Blake and I began working on a weekly series covering Glamorgan County Cricket Club’s County Championship season, which began in early April 2023. We produce the podcast every week and discuss Glamorgan’s fixtures and how the club will be affected by news and results of the teams around them, as well as any news surrounding the club.

Cardiff City Ladies FC: January 2023 – present

As a part of a documentary I started putting together on women’s football in Wales I began working with the Cardiff City Ladies media team. My role mostly involves conducting interviews before and after matches but I have also spent some time putting together match reports of games I attend.

BBC Wales: March 6th-March 10th (Work experience)

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work at BBC Wales for a week on work experience. I spent my week with the online/digital team and assisted those who worked there by doing little jobs to help out whilst trying to uncover a story of my own. This involved helping with their official Twitter account, picking out the best quotes in interviews to pass on to reporters for their stories, recording interviews and working on my own content. My brief was to try and search for stories in North East Wales and I was successful in finding, putting together and writing up a story that was eventually published on the BBC Wales page!
